Artist’s Statement

What I do is bring the work of my vision and hands to make contemplative art to provide focus for thoughts or worship, decorative work to please the eye, and functional objects to add joy to daily life and rituals. I call myself a textile-based mixed-media artist, which really means that I make art from all sorts of things, with fiber and fabric being my lodestone.  I take the stuff of this world and create evocations and invocations of the Spirit in this world.

Some say: God created people because he loves stories.  Your community’s faith journey is an ongoing tale of discovery and affirmation. I listen to your story of faith, exploration, and joy, and work with you to create liturgical textiles that reflect and celebrate the tale of that journey.

Some pieces praise the mystery; some offer a point of focus for prayer or contemplation.  Since time immemorial textiles have defined and adorned sacred space and been integral to sacred rites.  Your congregation’s liturgical textiles should be special and speak of your experiences of faith.

The sacraments are “an outward and visible sign of an inward and invisible grace” (St Augustine).  I see liturgical art as an outward and visible expression of spiritual discovery, prayer, and joy.
